After the administrator adds up the each of the columns, they must study the scores produced. Scores of 15 or greater is a possible indication of autism spectrum disorder (ASD). Having a score of 15 or more does not mean that the child tested has ASD, but it does mean both the parents and administrator should look into getting more testing done.
Things to remember when scoring The Social Communication Questionnaire:
- Item 1 is not scored due to the fact that it documents whether or not the child has phrase speech.
- Items 2-40 have a scoring value of either 0 or 1
- A score of 1 indicates “yes” the child displays what the question is asking
- Score of 0 indicates “no” the child does not display what the question is asking
